The rig is an instrument, and instruments produce readings. These are the readings: short essays on what happens when you put the same seven questions to eight different machines and turn the heat up until they come apart.

Some of it is method - how the answers are made, why nothing runs in your browser, what the temperature dial is really a dial of. Some of it is argument - what the collisions between these voices add up to, and why the most logical specimen in the rack is the least alive. Read in any order.
